Every Thursday I ask ten questions to authors of mystery, thriller and suspense about their books, their inspirations and how to get away with the perfect murder. In the hot seat this week is... Desiree Moodie.

Desiree says she has been writing since before she could talk. She's had short stories published in various anthologies and her musings have appeared in publications like The Huffington Post and The Frisky. She's the author of the White Rabbit Trilogy and she is the presenter/producer of the Storytime With Desiree podcast, where she chats with her favourite authors.

Q1. Hello Desiree! Can You Tell Us A Bit About Yourself And Your Books?

I'm Desiree, travel addict, Scrabble aficionado, lover of just about every kind of whiskey and President of the Harrison Ford fan club (yes, there IS one!). I live in Brooklyn, NY and I write dark and twisty thrillers inspired by old-timey film noir.

Q2. What Three Things Should Readers Expect From A Desiree Moodie Novel?

1. Good guys who are only marginally better than the bad guys.

2. Strong and multi-dimensional women characters.

3. Interesting locales.

Q3. Can You Tell Us About Your Character Logan Alexander?

Logan Alexander is looking for redemption. He wants to turn his life around but doesn't quite know how. He'll settle for just staying out of trouble but trouble has a way of following him around. He's like a magnet for it.

Q4. If Your Books Were Turned Into Movies, Who Would Play Your Main Character?

I'd definitely cast Josh Holloway (of LOST fame) as Logan.

Q5. How Do You Come Up With The Ideas For Your Stories – What Is Your Inspiration?

I always start with the characters. A seed for a character comes to me, maybe inspired by a quirk from someone I know or someone I've observed in some capacity. Then I flesh the character out some more and think up ways to put him in trouble.

Q6. What Do You Enjoy Most About Writing Thrillers?

Thinking up interesting ways to kill people and coming up with unexpected motivations for my villains.

Q7. What Are You Working On Right Now?

I just started the first book in a new series. It's a gritty PI novel set in 80's New York City.

Q8. Who Is Your Favourite Mystery, Thriller & Suspense Author?

Agatha Christie. She's the GOAT.

Q9. You're Being Sent To A Desert Island. You Can Only Take One Book With You. What Is It?

Oh no! Why would you ask something so cruel? I'm going to say The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. It's the first book in the Wheel of Time series and it's probably the only book I've read more than twice (and I'd happily read it a hundred times more).

Q10. How Do You Get Away With The Perfect Murder?

I'm a big fan of poisons. The more exotic and untraceable, the better!
